COMPLETE GUIDE

Open Office files in Google Workspace.

Excel, Word, PowerPoint and CSV files can be opened in Google editors. This guide explains the safest workflow, what converts well, and what to check afterwards.

Which Google editor should you use?

Using the correct matching editor ensures optimal document conversion and formatting retention:

Option 1: Manual upload through Google Drive

The traditional method is to open Google Drive in your web browser, select New, choose File upload, locate your file, wait for the upload to complete, and double-click to open it. This is useful when you need to upload a specific batch of files into a shared team folder.

Option 2: Direct desktop launch with SheetLaunch

  1. Install SheetLaunch and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Locate any downloaded Office or CSV file in Windows Explorer.
  3. Right-click it, select Open with, and click SheetLaunch.
  4. Wait for the progress handoff to finish and start editing in your web browser.

Your local file is never renamed or modified. The converted document copy is stored securely in your connected Google Drive account.

What may change during conversion?

Standard text, tables, worksheets, common formulas, images, lists, and basic formatting transfer smoothly. However, you should review important files for page breaks, custom fonts, charts, advanced formulas, slide transitions, comments, tracked changes, embedded objects, and external links.

How to avoid duplicate copies

If you open the same local file repeatedly, enable file reuse in SheetLaunch preferences. The app remembers the local file fingerprint and the existing Drive copy so future opens return directly to your existing document instead of creating duplicates.

Privacy and security

Conversion requires Google sign-in and an internet connection because the selected document is sent securely to your personal or organization Google Drive account. SheetLaunch does not inspect, sell, or retain document contents on third-party servers.

Troubleshooting

If SheetLaunch is missing from the Open with menu, select Windows "Choose another app" and browse to the installed executable. If conversion fails, confirm that the file download has completed fully and that the extension is valid.
